Travelling tradies with dogs: parasite guide

    Introduction

Worksites change daily. Bush blocks, coastal jobs and shed stays raise parasite exposure. A small routine keeps your dog protected while you get the job done.

Pack this once and forget it

    • Tick tool or fine-tipped tweezers

    • Spare dose if the renewal date lands mid-job

    • Old towel, collapsible bowl, poop bags, wipes and a small rubbish bag

    • Copy of vet details and your dog’s weight band

    Ute and site hygiene

    • Shade and airflow for the tray; never leave dogs on hot trays

    • Dry the tray after rain to reduce mosquitoes

    • Sweep sand and leaf litter from the tray and cab at day’s end

    • Rinse salt and sand from coats after coastal jobs and towel dry

    Dose timing that works

    • Give prevention a few days before long runs or remote jobs

    • Pack the next dose and set a phone reminder

    • Treat every dog in the household on the same day so you do not miss anyone

    Tick checks on the job

Do a two-minute check after bush tracks or long grass: lips, ear edges, under the collar, armpits, groin, between toes, tail base. Re-check at night if you worked coastal or scrubby sites.

    Safe removal basics

Grip close to the skin with a tick tool or fine-tipped tweezers and lift straight out with steady pressure. Keep the tick sealed and watch your dog for 24–48 hours.
