Station work and remote stays mean heat, dust, wildlife and long days outside. Parasite pressure changes with season and location. A simple plan keeps your dog comfortable while you get the job done. Prepared with input from our lead vet and founder, Dr. Feargus McConnell, BVSc.
Dose a few days early so protection is active on arrival
Pack the next dose if it will fall mid-stay
Re-weigh and confirm the correct weight band
Add a tick tool or fine-tipped tweezers to the kit
Quick tick check each evening: lips, ear edges, under collar, armpits, groin, between toes, tail base
Rinse dust, seeds and burrs from the coat; dry well
Sweep the ute tray and bedding daily; air in the sun when possible
Keep water bowls clean and tip out standing water near camps to reduce mosquitoes
Do not feed raw offal or allow scavenging of carcasses
Secure bins and food to deter wildlife visitors
Ask the local vet about any tapeworm risks and deworming intervals for working dogs in the region
Give it as soon as you remember and reset your reminder from that date. If you missed monthly heartworm prevention, ask your vet whether testing is needed before restarting.
