Pre-travel parasite pack list for Australian pet owners

    Introduction

Trips change routines, which is when parasites slip through. A small kit and a clear timing plan keep protection steady on the road. Prepared with input from our lead vet and founder, Dr. Feargus McConnell, BVSc.

    One week before you leave

    • Re-weigh pets and buy the correct weight band

    • Align the dose date so protection is active during travel

    • Set reminders for the road, plus a second reminder if you use a long-acting option

    • Check destination risk if you’re heading to coastal or bush regions with ticks

    Pack this parasite kit

    • Current product in the right size, plus the next dose if due mid-trip

    • Tick removal tool or fine-tipped tweezers

    • Small towel, wipes, poop bags, and a zip-lock to keep any removed tick

    • Vet clinic details and your pet’s medication list if they take other meds

    Travel-day habits

    • Keep products cool and dry in the car, not on the dash

    • After beach or bush stops, do a quick tick check: lips, ear edges, under collar, armpits, groin, between toes, tail base

    • Rinse salt and sand from coats and paws, then towel dry

    Motels, holiday homes and stations

    • Vacuum travel mats or shake out blankets on arrival

    • Hot-wash pet bedding when you can and dry thoroughly

    • Keep food sealed and bins lidded to deter wildlife visitors

    • Ask a local vet about current tick pressure if you’re new to the area

If plans change or you miss a dose

Give the dose as soon as you remember and reset your reminder from today. If your dog missed monthly heartworm prevention, ask your vet whether testing is needed before restarting.

    Products we trust

    Safety basics

    • Match species, weight band and minimum age every time

    • Do not stack different preventatives unless your vet advises

    • Keep cats away from recently treated dogs if a dog label advises it

    • Store products out of reach and away from heat

    FAQ

How many extra doses should I take for a long trip
Pack one extra beyond what your schedule needs, in case of delays.

Do chews wash off with swims
No. Chews aren’t affected by water. Spot-ons need a dry period after application.
