Rental bond and flea treatment for pet owners

    Introduction

Many leases include pet and flea clauses at end of tenancy. Expectations vary by state and by agreement. Here is a practical checklist to keep things smooth when you hand back the keys.

Before you list or give notice

    • Read your lease and any pet addendum for end-of-tenancy requirements.

    • Ask your property manager what proof they need. Some want a dated invoice, others accept evidence of ongoing prevention and cleaning.

    • Re-weigh pets and restock the correct weight bands so you can stay on schedule until move-out.

    The move-out clean

    • Dose every pet on time leading up to vacate day.

    • Vacuum thoroughly: rugs, skirting, sofa seams, under beds, and car boot. Empty the vacuum outside.

    • Hot wash pet bedding and favourite blankets. Dry well.

    • Mop hard floors and wipe skirting and window tracks where dust collects.

    • If you used rugs on carpets, vacuum both sides.

    Timing tips

    • Keep prevention on time for at least three months if you saw fleas during the tenancy.

    • If you are booking a professional clean, schedule it after you finish heavy vacuuming and after the last pet dose has dried or been given.

    Pets during inspections or handover

    • Remove pets from the property during open homes and final inspection.

    • Store products out of sight and out of reach.

    • Take photos of cleaning and your last dose pack to show dates if needed.

    Products we trust

    Safety basics

    • Species matters. Never use a dog product on a cat

    • Match current weight band and minimum age

    • Do not stack preventatives unless your vet advises

    • Keep cats away from recently treated dogs if a dog label advises it
